The Right Fat Diet

Modern Problems and Band-aid Solutions

We live in one of the richest nations in the world, yet when it comes to quality health, many of us are poor. We incessantly struggle to become free of unwanted weight gain, high cholesterol levels, and a host of degenerative diseases.

The comfort and luxuries of our modern world can’t escape the price of moderen issues. Our air is polluted with smog, carbon monoxide and diesel fumes.  In fact, air pollution levels in the worlds’ 20 largest cities have far over shot regulatory standards and exposure to the carcinogens found in automobile exhaust may be as mush as 5,000 times greater than Environmental Protection Agency limits.

Our planet’s lakes and oceans contain contaminants such as mercury, petroleum products, and industry by-products and waste.

Farmland is being treated with chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides, which in turn, are carried off by agriculture and erosion runoff to end up in chlorine-filled drinking water supplies. Our food supply is being laced with chemicals that can be toxic. The U.S. alone uses at least 20 billion kilograms of hazardous chemicals each year and currently, death and chronic illnesses worldwide due to pesticide poisoning number 1 million per year.Unless we protect and cleanse our bodies, these harmful toxins find their way into the system and begin to cause imbalance.

MODERN DISEASE

Today’s sedentary lifestyle coupled with an ever-increasing consumption of nutritionally depleted fast food, as well as junk food laden with saturated fat and sugar, has created an epidemic concern with overweight or obese consumers. Instead of eating the right fats that support our health, we are eating the wrong fats, which damage health. Other symptoms that result from living in our modern world vary from mild to severe. They are the warning signs of modern disease. Lack of energy, headaches, skin conditions, digestive difficulties, PMS, infertility, attention deficit disorder, asthma, allergies, lowered immunity, high cholesterol and poor elimination are some of the symptoms that, if allowed to continue, can evolve into life threatening illnesses including cardiovascular disease, liver disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s and cancer.

BAND-AID SOLUTIONS

Moderen medicine concentrates on alleviating symptoms instead of correcting the nutritional deficiencies and toxicities that are at the root of most health problems. These modern Band-Aid solutions can cause more problems than thay solve, resulting in drug -induced nutritional deficiencies and unwanted, even dangerous side effects such as; headaches, vomiting, loss of sex drive, bleeding ulcers ,seizures, or heart damage. It has become common to take another drug to alleviate the side effects of the first one and so on until we don’t know which symptoms are caused by which drug. The magic pill of the day may provide temporary relief from the symptoms of disease, but at what cost to our health and health care system?Likewise, starvation diets, low fat diets, fat blockers, liposuction, appetite suppressants and diet shakes or pills triggered with stimulants are not the answer. It’s time to get off the merry-go-round of ineffective and unsafe weight loss schemes. Re-establishing the body’s balance and a having sound health requires the simple wisdom of getting back to the basics. The right fat diet offers grassroots solutions providing sensible and efficient long-term results.

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL FATS?

Many people believe that avoiding all fat is the path to true health, but in reality there are two components that come only from fat that are just as necessary to our health and survival as proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Of the many kinds of fats, scientists have given only omega 3 and omegs 6 the name essential fatty acids because every cell in the body must have them in order to survive but can’t make them on their own. Therfore, a direct food source is always required. These are the right fats that are key to the right fat diet for weight management, energy, fitness, performance, cardiovascular health, digestion and immune function.

We can find onega 3 EFAs in flaxseeds, green-leafy vegetables, and high fat, cold-water fish. Omega 6 EFAs are found in sesame and sunflower seeds as well as evening primrose oil. In order to receive the greatest benefit from their health-giving properties, they need to be consumed in the proper ratio. The right fat diet requires the ratio of  a higher amount of omega 3 as compared to omega 6. This isn’t easily achieved as it has been shown that the average North American diet is far too high in omega 6 and dangerously low in omega 3. Today’s popular low fat diets are low in both. The right fats play complex roles in the human body. The  main tissue, gland and organs requires their presence. They support glandular and organ functions, lubricate the joints, ease PMS, stimulate the production of fat-digesting enzymes, and help keep you warm.

Beat the Winter Blues

Why some people get seasonal affective disorder, and more important, what you can do about it.Medical scientists are learning more and more each day about the biological rhythms of  life and how these rhythms play a role in determining health and disease.Sometimes this biological clock gets out of kilter.Perhaps The bestknown example of this occurrence is seasonal affective disorder (SAD)-The medical term for the winter blues. Typically, individuals  with SAD feel depressed. They generally slow down, oversleep, overeat, and crave carbohydrates in the winter. In the summer, these same peole feel elated, active, and energetic.

THE IMPORTANCE OF LIGHT

Although various things may be responsible for SAD,lack of exposure to full- spectrum natural light appears to be the most logical explanation. The antidepressant effect of the light therapy is probably due to restoring proper melatonin synthesis and secretion by the pineal gland ,leading to re-establishment of proper circadian rhythm. if you suffer from SAD,trying replacing all of the light bulbs in the room where you spend the most time with full spectrum lighting. you may also want to invest in a light box, available on -line.

MELATONIN?-In people who have SAD, melatonin secretion is disturbed. It makes sense to see if there are any benefits from melatonin supplementation at bedtime.

DO LOW LEVELS OF VITAMIN D CAUSE SAD?  One theory about SAD is that it is another disorder linked to low levels of Vitamin D.Vitamin D is absolutely essential for proper brain chemistry and neurotransmitter action. It is important to insure optimal vitamin D levels during the winter months. Most health experts now advocate daily dosages of 2,000 to  5,000 i.u.even in apparently healthy adults.

ST. JOHN’S WORT EXTRACT IN SAD- Studies have shown St. John’s Wort extract to be very effective  in reducing depression scores in patients with SAD . In one study, patients were treated with 900 mg St. John’s Wort daily.

Water

From Prescription for Nutritional Healing
By: Phyllis A. Batch, CNC & James F. Balch, MD.

Human beings can survive without food for thirty to forty days – about 5 weeks – but without water, life would end in about three to five days. The average person’s body is composed of approximately 70 percent water, although the water content varies considerably from person to person even from one body part to another. The body’s water supply is responsible for and involved in nearly every bodily process, including digestion, absorption, circulation, and excretion. Water is also the primary transport of nutrients throughout the body and os is necessary for all building functions in body. Water helps maintain normal body temperature and is essential for carrying waste material out of the body. Therefore, replacing the water that is continually being lost through sweating and elimination is very important.

A drop in the body’s water content causes a decline in blood volume. The lowering of blood volume in turn triggers the hypothalamus, which is the brain’s thirst center, to send out the demand for a drink. This causes a sligh rise in the concentration of sodium in the blood. These changes quickly trigger a sensation of thirst. Unfortunately, people often consume only enough liquid to quench a dry or parched throat, not enough to cover all of the water loss. As a result, they can become dehydrated. As we age, the sense of thirst is dulled. At the same time, we have a lower percentage of reserve body water than we did when we were younger. This is why it is important to drink water even when you do not feel thirsty.

Water quality is beneficial for virtually all disorders known to humankind. Bowel and bladder problems, as well as headaches can be reduced by drinking water. If not enough water is consumed, toxins can build up in the system, causing headaches. Water flushes these toxins out. Anxiety attacks, food intolerance, “acid stomach” and heartburn, muscle pains, colitis pain, hot flashes, and many other discomforts and disorders can be eased quickly by drinking a full glass of water. Chronic fatigue syndrome is another disorder that necessitates consuming plenty of quality water daily to flush our toxins and other substances that contribute to muscle aches and extreme fatigue.

Without adequate water, we would poison ourselves with our own metabolic wastes. The kidneys remove waste products, such as uric acid, urea, and lactic acid that must be dissolved in water. If there is not enough water available to remove these substances effectively, they may cause damage to the kidneys.

Digestion and metabolism also rely on water for certain enzymatic an chemical reactions in the body. Water carries nutrients and oxygen to cells through the blood and is involved in the regulation of body temperature through prespiration. Water is especially important for people who have musculoskeletal problems such as arthritis, or who are athletic, as it lubricates the joints. Because the lung tissue must be moist to facilitate oxygen intake and carbon dioxide excretion, water is essential for breathing. Approximately one pint of liquid is lost each day through exhaling. If you do not take enough water to maintaina fluid balance, every bodily function can be impaired. And the more active you are, the more water you must consume in order to keep your body’s water level in balance.

Inadequate water consumption may contribute to excess body fat; poor muscle tone; digestive problems; poor functioning of many organs, including the brain; joint and muscle soreness; and, paradoxically, water retention. Consuming plenty of water can slow the aging process, and can prevent or improve arthritis, kidney stones, constipation, arteriosclerosis, obesity, glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, hypoglycemia, and many other diseases. It is not expensive and you should feel a difference quickly, but you must drink eight to ten full glasses of quality water daily.

Obtaining quality water would seem an easy matter. However, due to the numerous types of classifications water is qiven, the average consumer is easily confused about what is available.

Combining Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science to Delight the Senses

From Nature’s Alchemy

Since time began, scents have been used to enhance, soothe or excite the spirits.

What is more evocative than than a drift of rose petals on the breeze, or the bracing freshness of piney woods? Chamomille can conjure up tea, home and comfort, while
basil can evoke greenness, freshness and spring.

For centuries, botanical essential oils – highly concentrated aromatic oils found in herbs, flowers and trees – have been used to annoint the body, ease the sting of a wound, assure a sound sleep, or turn a simple bath into a rejuvenating or relaxing
experience. These feather-light, non-greasy oils can be dissolved in alcohol or mixed with other pure vegetable oils to become a unique part of our personal cure regimen.

From religious ceremonies to beauty rituals, essential oils were an integral part of everyday life for our ancestors. The medieval Persian physician Avicenna developed the distillation techniques for extracting these delicate, readily evaporating oils from plants.

Suggested Uses for Essential Oils

Aromatherapy

Combine essential oils with special message techniques to relieve stress, soothe the skin or help ease congestion. Many books on aromatherapy techniques can quide you in choosing the right oils to meet your needs.

Body Care

Give your favorite unscented lotions, bath oils, creams and hair care products an exotic lift by mixing in a touch of essential oil. Or give your hair and scalp a refreshing conditioning treatment by placing a few drops of rosemary or lavender oil directly on your natural bristle hairbrush (which also conditions and protects the bristles).

Crafts

Create a festive mood around the holidays or a scented mood for spring by “decorating” your home with the fragrance of essential oils. Potpourri, incense, candles and herbal fragrance pillows make unique personalized gifys. Include a small bottle of essential oils with your potpourri gift, so the recipient can refresh the mixture throughout the year.

Insect Repellant
Enjoy that Sunday picnic or evening outdoor concern without using harsh chemical sprays. A number of oils, such as citroella, have long been valued for their natural insect-repelling properties. Just blend a few drops of essential oil into an unscented vegetable oil and rub on your skin or on your clothes.

REFRESHING CITRUS MINERAL BATH

The familiar aromas of citrus oils are pleasantly sweet and uplifting. Combine:

Add to bath for a spa quality experience.
